When I was young I always knew that north was north
Every compass showed the way
But they say that any day
It all could change

Because the Earth just might reverse polarity
It has happened in the past
And it will again
The only question's when
Also how long will it last?

Will the satellites fall?
Will the power grid stall and die?
Will our smartphones all go dumb?
Will the airplanes drop from the sky?

How can science predict
What this change will inflict
We all need to study more
We can't ignore
The Earth's magnetic core
(Spinning round and round)
(Miles underground)

Looking back to many thousand years ago
When the Earth's directions flipped
There were no computer chips
Or flying drones

Could it be that current-day technology
Will completely go awry
Will the lights go dark?
Will every baseball park
Light the games with fireflies?

Will our TV's all fail?
Will our internet mail just stop?
(Holy moley, it's over)
Will our blu-ray players crash?
Will the traffic lights flash and pop?

Or is all the alarm
And predictions of harm
Just an unenlightened roar
Of what's in store
From Earth's magnetic core
(Do we know the score?)

When the magnetic shield
Dwindles down will it yield a mess?
Will the ships be lost at sea
If they don't have their GPS?

Will it end you and me?
Guess we'll just wait and see, you know
'Cause they say it will be here
Within one million years or so
